This is part three of a six-part, six-week series based on Psalm 139:13-18.
As we continue to learn from what David knew, this week we
come upon verse 15 of Psalm 139, where David writes, “You watched me as I was
being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the
womb.” (New Living Translation)
God’s eyes have always been upon you. Never have you been out of His sight, even when you were in your
mother’s womb, hidden from the rest of the world. God watched as you were being
woven together, layer upon layer, and He knows you through and through. Is this at the root of Jesus saying, “And
the very hairs on your head are all numbered,” (Luke 12:7 – New Living
Translation), I wonder?
At those times when we question the purpose of our lives,
when we question if anyone notices – let alone appreciates – us, I can imagine
God standing up, waving His arms, trying to get our attention, saying, “I watched you as you were being formed in
utter seclusion, as you were woven together in the dark of the womb.” Or, “I
notice you! I have always noticed you – and I appreciate you!”
It’s hard to find a better compliment than the highest power
in all of creation saying, “I’ve had my eyes on you from the beginning,” wouldn’t
you say? Yet somehow, that’s not enough for us. We turn and consult ourselves
or others about our worth. Both will deceive us. It’s a foreign idea that our self
worth does not come from self, but it doesn’t. God is the one who installed our
value to begin with, and He is the one who continues to reassure us of what great
value it is!
With each verse we examine in Psalm 139, we’re reminded of
how much God has invested in us – each of us. While we may see the world as a
big movie set with a few million dollar stars and multitudes of minimum wage extras,
God tells us we are all stars to Him. He purposefully knitted each of us together
under His watchful eyes. And whether or not our lives garner the spotlight of
the world, we can be sure we’re in God’s spotlight – and we have been from the
beginning.
Your life matters to God. Draw near to Him and live the life
He has created you for!

I enjoyed reading your post here and visiting your site. I grew up without parents, in a German orphanage and I have valued the knowledge of knowing that I am always under His watchful eye. Thank you for this lovely reminder!

It’s in fact very difficult in this busy life to listen news on Television, therefore I only use the web for that reason, and obtain the hottest information.
